Plastic Man's powers lend themselves to the strange and comedic, but here Baker presents a Looney Tunes-level reconsideration of the hero with cartooning and comedy to match. Soon, though, the pair find themselves in trouble after the FBI fingers none other than Eel O'Brian, Plastic Man's alter ego, as the primary suspect. The story begins as Plastic Man attempts to help solve a murder with the assistance of his good friend Woozy Winks. Playing with our expectations of superhero comics, Baker brings the genre to life, leaning into the history of animation for inspiration as he expands the horizons of the reader and the literal parameters of what Plastic Man can do.

The Authority: Gunn said the movie was a “passion project” of his and is based on the Wildstorm characters. On the whole, Berlanti (who created the Arrowverse TV shows) is stepping back from DC. The Lanterns series means the end of producer Greg Berlanti’s Green Lanterns project. There will be a “terrifying mystery” that will tie into the larger picture of the DCU. Lanterns: Gunn likened the terrestrial-based story of a couple of Green Lanterns – John Stewart and Hal Jordan – to True Detective but with “space cops watching over precinct Earth”. Gunn said titles such as Matt Reeves’ Batman, Todd Phillips’ Joker or Teen Titans Go, which sit outside of the main DCU continuity will be distinctly labelled as “DC Elseworld”. That the characters are consistent, played by the same actors and it works within one story.”
